Privacy Policy

Sunnati. Last updated in Rabi al-Awwal 1448 AH.

In short

Sunnati collects nothing about you. It asks for no account, no email and no phone number, so everything you record stays on your device alone, and the person who wrote the app has no way to see any of it.

Nothing leaves your device except in one place, which you know when you enter it: the nearby mosques screen, which asks what is around you and so has to send where you are. That is set out under Location below.

What is kept on your device

The app uses your browser's local storage on your device to keep your settings and what you have recorded, including:

None of this leaves your device. You can export it as a single file or delete all of it from the settings screen at any time, and clearing the site's browser data erases it too.

Location

If you allow the app to know your location, it uses it to compute prayer times and the qibla direction on your device, and sends it to no server for that. You may instead pick a city from the list, and then your location is never asked for.

The one exception is the nearby mosques screen. By its nature it asks what is around you, so your location is sent to the OpenStreetMap servers and their Overpass service to learn which mosques are near you, and the map tiles are requested from its tile server, which likewise carries the place you are looking at. None of it is sent unless you open that screen yourself, nothing is sent with it of your name, your device identifier or anything else that points to you, and the app keeps none of it. If you never open it, your location never leaves your device.

The Android app and its permissions

The Android app shows this same site inside itself, without passing through another browser or sharing anything with one. It asks for these permissions, each for what is written beside it and nothing else:

You can turn the adhan alert off inside the app, or block its notifications from the phone's settings, and everything else keeps working.

Files you keep on your device

If you save a surah's recitation to listen offline, or download the tafsir, it stays in the app's storage on your device, and you delete it from the settings screen or by deleting the app. If you send a verse or a dhikr as a picture, the share sheet opens for you to choose yourself where it goes, and on Android 10 and later the picture is first saved to your phone's gallery. If you make a verse into a video, it is handed to the share sheet from the app's temporary storage, and it is not saved to the gallery unless you save it yourself. The app sends nothing on its own.

What needs the internet

The whole app works offline after its first visit, and the network is left only what you ask for yourself:

These are independent parties with their own policies, and the app sends them nothing about you beyond what is needed to fetch the file asked for.

What the app does not have

Children

The app is suitable for all ages. It collects data from no one, and so collects none from children.

Changes

Any change to this policy will appear on this page and in the repository's release history.
